Mapping Kaiwharawhara Awa
Ahumai is currently developing a cultural health monitoring index for Kaiwharawhara that will be led by and for uri o Taranaki Whānui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika.
Part of this process has included working with collaborators to develop resources. The FCMS (Focus catchment map series) is a resource created by EOS ecology through the WAI connection - Tatai Ki Te Wai’ project which has now led to EOS creating series of maps for catchments all over Aotearoa.
Through the partnership between Ahumai and MTSW (Mountains to Sea Wellington), EOS ecology created a series of maps for ‘Te Whanganui a Tara / Wellington Harbour West’ which includes the Kaiwharawhara catchment.
The aim of this series is to create a timestamp of the present state of the catchment, including information on the environment that surround the catchment such as land/vegetation cover and soil types.
